Waikato Road Asset Technical Accord (RATA)

The Waikato Mayoral Forum and WLASS Board established a Waikato Centre of Excellence (known as the Road Asset Technical Accord – RATA) in road asset management in 2014. Since this time RATA has continued to expand its service offering across partner Councils across the Waikato region. From September 2019 the WLASS Board approved an evolution of RATA to become the REGIONAL Asset Technical Accord with an expansion to supporting waters collaboration.

Our purpose is to enable effective, strategic asset planning to support investment decision-making for the Waikato region, and our vision is to be a trusted team supporting our participating councils to demonstrate excellence in the delivery of safe and sustainable services to our communities.

RATA strategic objectives:

  • Achieves excellence for Waikato Councils in asset planning, standards, compliance and regulatory frameworks by providing asset management advice and support
  • Addresses skill shortages/succession issues through strategic collaboration and identifies and develops opportunities to collaborate, learn and share together
  • Enables increased value through joint procurement and shared services
  • Leads the Waikato region to take advantage of future asset management advances
  • Enables evidence-based decision making and works collaboratively to deliver greater value for our councils and our communities
